  • Possessive-marked postpositions

    The possessive-marked postpositions are formed by adding a possessive suffix and a dative, locative or ablative case suffix to the complemented noun.

    List of possessive-marked postpositions

    How to form the possessive-marked postpositions

    The possessive marked postpositions are formed by adding a possessive suffix and than a case suffix (dative,locative or ablative). The choice of the case on the postposition depends on the context and meaning.

    ön (front) -üm (1st person singular) -de (locative) önümde
    yan (side) -ın (3rd person singular) -dan (ablative) yanından
    üst (top) -ün (3rd person singular) -de (locative) üstünde
    ara (space) -(s)ı (3rd person singular) -da (locative) arasında
    alt (bottom) -ın  (3rd person singular) -a (dative) altına

    • Önümde iki köpek vardı. (There were two dogs in front of me.)
    • Evin yanından yürüdük. (We walked beside the house.)
    • Masanın üstünde bir defter var. (There is a notebook on the table.)
    • Benim kitabımla onunki arasında bir kağıt vardı. (There was a paper between my book and his.)
    • Yatağın altına baktı. (She looked under the bed.)
