  • There are 4 postpositions with non-case-marked complements:

    Postposition English Example
    gibi like ev gibi (like home)
    için for ev için (for home)
    ile or -y(le) with/by ev ile (with home)
    kadar as...as ev kadar... (as... as home)

    Usage of the complements

    The complements of these 4 postpositions stay non-case marked.

    Examples:

    • Bu kedi köpek gibi davranıyor. (This cat acts like a dog.)
    • O Madonna kadar ünlü. (She is as famous as Madonna.)
    • Benim için yemek aldın mı? (Did you buy food for me?)
    • Seninle konuşmam lazım. (I need to talk with you.)

    enlightenedException: If the complement is one of the following pronouns, they take the genitive case marking:

    Pronoun Example
    Ben (I) Benim gibi (like me)
    Sen (you) Senin kadar (as...as you)
    Biz (we) Bizim için (for us)
    Siz (you) Sizin gibi (like you)
    Bu (this) Bunun için (for this)
    Şu (this/that) Şunun gibi (like this)
    O (he/she/it/that) Onun kadar (as...as her)
    Kim (who) Kimin için (for whom)

    enlightenedBut the plural form of these pronouns stay in the non-case-marked form:

    Pronoun with the plural form Example
    Bizler (us) bizler gibi (like us)
    Sizler (you) sizler için (for you)
    Bunlar (these) bunlar kadar (as...as these)
    Şunlar (these/those) şunlar gibi (like these)
    Onlar (those) onlarla (with those)
    Kimler (whom) kimler için (for whom)

    Declension of the postposition 'ile' (with)

    The postposition 'ile' is declined according to the vowel harmony rules.

    • The last vowel is '-e, -i, -ö, -ü'' ->  use -le
    • The last vowel is '-a, -ı, -o, -u'' -> use -la
