Croatian imperative

The imperative is a grammatical mood that forms commands or requests, including giving permission or declaring a prohibition or any other kind of advice or exhortation.

Formation of the Croatian imperative

In Croatian the imperative exists in all persons except of the 1st person singular. The imperative is only formed by the verbs ending.

enlightenedThe exception is the 3rd person singular and plural which is formed by: personal pronoun + word "neka" + present of the corresponding verb.

  • On neka pjeva! = Let him sing!
  • Oni neka pjevaju! = Let them sing!

There are three groups of endings for the imperative form. Choosing the correct group is based on the verb's ending.
