As non-native parents it is certainly not easy to teach your children Dutch or to help with the fluency of the new language. Who wants some extra exercise for his children? I can help you with that. As their vocabulary becomes more and more extensive and their sentences become increasingly fluid, your children will get more and more self-confident. Hi! I am Maaike, a Dutch primary school teacher. Every day I'm doing by best to teach the Dutch language well to the childeren, but also other languages ​​such as English and Spanish.
I have more than 12 years of experience as a teacher, in the Netherlands and abroad, to young and old!
In the Netherlands I have experience in each grade, so I know exactly how the Dutch language is given in primary education. I lived in Spain for 3 years where I taught English to Spanish children and adults. During that period I also followed an intensive language course to learn the Spanish language. My name is Josanne, I'm from the Netherlands and I'm a jurist (criminal law), tutor, study supervisor, group fitness instructor and language (& linguistics) lover. My native language is Dutch, but I also speak French, (Swiss) German and English. I'm learning Spanish and Italian and I'm enjoying every frustrating bit of it.
I'm a true bookworm and the books I love are very diverse. My absolute favourite genre is medical thrillers, with (of course!) legal thrillers a beloved runner up.
Besides reading I also like to write. Every year I participate in NaNoWriMo and I kind of have the idea of participating in my target languages from now on. Who doesn't like a challenge, right?
I have worked as a teacher in high school for Dutch and in adult education for Dutch and German. Since secondary school, I have been tutoring students in Dutch, English and German, and I have worked with refugees helping them deal with the legal challenges they encountered as well as with learning the Dutch language. At the moment I also work as a tutor at a Dutch university in the criminal law section, considering obtaining a PhD, and as a high school teacher (French language).
Even though I can easily talk about almost anything, the point of language learning is to get you to speak. There are many different ways to get there; exercises, writing, acting out dialogues from your favourite books or movies, prepared presentation and unprepared speech… Whatever fits your learning style and what you feel comfortable with. I can easily adapt to your (language) learning needs and style.
By learning other languages, I have also started looking at Dutch with different eyes, recognising the pitfalls learners may encounter.
