3 Cheers For Radar Ears!
'3 Cheers, For Radar Ears'
Hi there!
I am a language artist! English is the language I paint with. Why do I paint?
Since using language for everyday things involves imagery, most of all in speech, for native speakers of English, OR ANY language:-
The simile: your ears are as Big as an Elephant's! (No, really?!);
The metaphor: the fog lay down on the hill as still as a ghostly, skulking wolf (Spooky, huh?)
I have been teaching English, and French, for over 25 years. I enjoy it so much, as I have a very strong desire to spark the imaginations of the students I teach.
Language learning should always be a lot of fun- it IS a lot of fun, EVEN if you have a test to do, there's always a game, a quiz, a puzzle or a piece of artistic writing that can be tried, to make it LESS of a task, and MORE of a fun challenge.
How about writing a song? A rap? A poem? A story? A cartoon? Make a video, a film? A podcast? Does anyone tell you it can’t be done? If they do, they’re CRAZY.
I always spend time encouraging students, helping them to realize, we can achieve a lot, if we DON'T WORRY. So, students can gain a lot of confidence with this good feeling.
I am a writer, writing poetry, short story and I am writing a Young Adult Fantasy novel. That's why language is so interesting for me, and I love imparting that love of language to my students.
I have been a tutor of English AND French, for 13 years. I visit the students' homes, normally, here in Scotland, but have started to use Zoom to do online tutorials, due, of course, to the recent Public Health Emergency, the pandemic, around the whole world.
We need NOT be afraid of this. It WILL pass.
In classrooms, I had the wonderful luxury of a Smartboard, or sometimes a Promethean board- electronic, interactive, online and magical classroom teaching and learning, via an electronic Smart Pen. How much fun was that? A LOT.
Kids could come out and TEACH the class, when their groups had decided HOW best to learn the language we were engaged with- that was one fun way of learning.
So, I might be older, but new technology fascinates me, as I know it will make LEARNING EASIER. Who wants to bust their guts learning grammar??
I know I hated learning often by ROTE, in French. It can help, sometimes, just to learn things off by heart, but there are too many other ways to learn, to ignore them.
I will use Powerpoints, Microsoft Word Documents, Excel spreadsheets (you never know!) Internet links, video, Podcast links, newspaper articles, news flashes or news podcasts/ videos, recorded pieces of audio, interactive whiteboards (Zoom has these), PEOPLE LIVE on video, speaking English, anything, at all, to make learning English language STICK in your minds like GLUE.
Why '3 Cheers, For Radar Ears'?!
Listening very carefully to speech, in any language, will REALLY help you to speak that language well. I would get friends in Hong Kong (1998-2006), as well as Chinese teachers and students, to repeat things in Cantonese, again and again, to LISTEN to exactly how they said words, then I would repeat and repeat.
Cantonese is the hardest language I ever learned- I can't write Chinese, or read it very well. I CAN speak quite well, in the language of Guangdong (English : Canton) and Hong Kong. I have, obviously, fluent French:
On ne peut pas enseigner le francais, sauf si l'on en parle courrament.
I have some basic Mandarin. I have some German and Spanish, some of my wife's language, Tagalog (Filipino)- I just need to go live there, to pick it up better.
How did I do it? : 3 Cheers, For Radar Ears!
So, if I have learned how to speak, read and write in other languages, guess what? I know the KNACK, the ways that help you do it.
Just let me show you. I swear it will be good fun :)

Lithuanian language is one of the Baltic countries languages. Some people are travelling to Lithuania, some of them are working or studying over there. So it's really good to know how to say very simple words, as hello, how are you, good mornng, thank you, you're welcome, where, how and etc. It's necessary because the main language is Lithuanian in that country
I am lithuanian and was learning other languages. So I can understand you very well, how do you feel in foreign country without language. You want to say something, ask or express yourself, but you can't. I would like to teach you. I like helping people and I have almost 10 years experience in teaching with different age people from different countries and culturies. I think so, that we will spent very good time. Don't worry about nothing. The best thing is your desire. We have don't forget just be patiece. When we are sowing, we think about future, because in few months we can see results of our work. That helps us work little by little.
I would like to offer you lessons for beggners. In these lessons you will learn how to pronounce words, how to read. Also you will learn basic words and phrases and how to talk with another person in dialogue.

Since 1994, I have dedicated myself to translating and teaching thanks to my travels, abroad studies, foreign reading and writing. I provide fun and customized lessons based on the student's goals. I also triy to minimize English speaking during the lessons. I give homework exercises, and my lessons are intermixed with grammar, conversation, customs and traditions. Hello my name is Lucia and I am a native Italian speaker.
I have a degree as an interpreter for English and French so I know how hard it may be to learn a foreign language. I work as a free-lance interpreter and private English and French teacher. I have a strong passion for languages which I have been studying for many years. I am studying Spanish now and always trying to improve my English and French knowledge. I am a friendly person and my lessons mainly focus on conversation. As a teacher I am very patient and I always propose tailor-made lessons with respect to your needs. I am really enthusiastic about being a teacher because this activity allows you to share your culture and habits with foreign people. Learning a language is also learning a new culture.

Lucia, in a friendly and motivating manner, manages to get us, as beginners to Italian, to "speak". New vocabulary and grammar basics are regularly incorporated. Each lesson is different, fun and effective as Lucia is not only a very experienced teacher but also embodies the love for Italy and her language. We are happy to have “found” them, Rita and Connie

Hi, my name is Ayşegül. I graduated from Hacettepe University in the department of English Language Teaching. I'm an English teacher in a private institution now. I can teach both English and Turkish.
First and foremost, I want to start with one of my favourite quotation from Richard Henry Dana(!) (I'm not sure whether this quotation belongs to him or not, but I liked it. :) “He who dares to teach must never cease to learn.” First of all, we as teachers must improve ourselves about everything such as cultural knowledge, technology, best seller books new novels etc. We should keep up with the times and try to understand our students.
Then we should know students’ interests, needs, backgrounds and their level of English / Turkish. If we know the aforementioned things, it would be easier for us to decide what kind of materials we can use to attract their attention. Also, one of the key points is that we should motivate the students to learn. As teachers we should teach our students why they learn language/grammar/vocabulary etc. rather than just memorization. Regarding teaching methods we can use student-centered methods. We should use examples from real life so they can broaden students’ knowledge. Also using examples from real life, help students to internalize the examples. I strongly believe that we should make our students acquire the language from all aspects including reading, listening, writing, and speaking.
All in all, as a teacher we have lots of things to do. One of our most important responsibilities’ is to help students to understand that they have enough power and capacity to learn a language if they are determined enough....

Why should you choose me? Take a look at what people say who have taken online classes with me.
Book lessons with me and
- prepare Dutch exams "Basisinburgering A1" and "Inburgeringsexamen A2". Your full commitment and my energetic, professional approach are the winning combination to help you succeed at once!
- learn Dutch because you live in the Netherlands (or are planning to move there) and still don’t speak the language properly or haven’t started yet. You’ll enjoy your environment more!
- learn Italian for work or because you will move to this beautiful country or simply because you just love it. Let me help you experience the language!
- study Spanish for pleasure, work or because you have to prepare an exam for school and you need to get confident to perform optimally
- get confident in useful daily conversations, meetings at work, exams, and presentations
- overcome the fear of failure; if you have learning problems, feel shy or need a boost of energy you’ll get confident enough to achieve your goals
My lessons are based on conversations. My method is to help you practice the language from the very beginning in spontaneous and direct conversations, using often role plays.
With books, articles, songs, and other interesting and stimulating material I will encourage conversation, develop grammar in a simpler way, and improve pronunciation.
Learning a foreign language is not a matter of doing much effort, but rather of being consistent, enjoying the lessons and allowing your intuition to work with you. You will book immediate results while having fun!
I've been teaching Dutch, Spanish and Italian for many years, in The Netherlands, for private institutes, for the integration of foreigners into society (Inburgering), and online from Italy, where I currently live.

Hi! My name is Federica, and I am a certified teacher of Italian as a foreign language.
I have 3 + years of experience as a teacher, and I have also been a translator/proofreader for almost three decades. I can speak English, a bit of German, French and Spanish, as well as very, very basic Swedish. In short, I know just how it feels to be a learner of a foreign language, too!
One thing I know is that learning a language is more effective - and much more fun - when teaching is personalized. That's why I don't follow any single textbook: I like to try and choose the texts and exercises which are best suited to my students' interests. I also prefer to use "real" material such as magazine articles, songs, videos, etc., so you'll get an authentic feel for the language.
But enough about me. Let's talk about you! What is your current level and what are your short- and long-term goals in learning Italian? Book a free trial lesson (half an hour) with me. We'll talk about your goals and discuss how best to achieve them.
Hope to meet you soon!

Hello! My name is Andrei, and I'm a professional theater director and educator from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. I teach theater all over the world - in Europe and the USA, and I teach Russian online for anyone who studies Russian and loves Russian culture.
Learning and teaching languages is my passion. As a theater director, I interact with Russian language and Russian literature on daily basis, so, when teaching Russian, I strive to share my love of it and spread my knowledge.
No less than Russian, I love English, which allows me to communicate with the world. In 2018, I won a Fulbright competition and as a Fulbrighter and Visiting Scholar I taught Russian theater techniques at two American universities - The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and The University of Illinois at Chicago. This experience helped me improve my spoken English and convinced me that language is a powerful tool for cultural exchange.
Qualifications & Experience
As a tutor, I've been teaching Russian online for about 2 years. During this time I've taught around 50 students - from beginners to advanced. Among my students I have had an American military pilot, an American embassy officer in Kazakhstan, dozens of college students, and others. I've gained some experience in diagnosing student problems and finding effective tactics to improve their skills.
As a person who was trained a lot in voice and speech class during my studies in the Saint-Petersburg State Theater Arts Academy, I can also help you significantly improve your pronunciation.
Teaching Approach
I believe that it's not enough to learn grammar and vocabulary to master a foreign language. One has to be immersed into a real language, a language people really speak, which is always different from those versions we encounter in various textbooks.
On the other hand, it seems to me important to show students higher examples of the Russian language - the literary language. It's essential to know which speech sounds good and to distinguish it.
I mainly rely on conversational practice. However, as to their homework, I strongly recommend students to listen to Russian speech using various videos and podcasts, and I give them four special techniques for working with these types of materials. I firmly believe that listening can create the basis for future communication skills. There's no doubt that children begin to speak imitating the speech of their parents.
During my lessons I use "Russian in Exercises" written by S.A. Khavronina and A.I. Shirochenskaya - a book published in 2014, which became a bestseller among those who teach Russian as a foreign language, "53 Models of Russian Grammar" by T.M. Dorofeeva and M.N. Lebedeva, various exercises, tables and games, as well as interviewing and retelling.

It is a pleasure to have Andrei as my teacher! He is an experienced and passionate teacher and very knowledgeable about all aspects of Russian (grammar, expressions, literature etc.). He also speaks fluent English, which helps when you have more in-depth questions. He is positive, patient and not too 'schoolish', which is what I need. His method is hands on. The first lesson Andrei analysed my level with a few smart tests to find out the focal points for my lessons. He has his own material, but is also open to change the subject of a lesson to suit your own needs. After a few lessons I already connect much better to the Russian language, and I look forward to every new lesson!

Catherine is an excellent teacher and communicator. In our initial session, we had an extremely productive conversation about goals and expectations and what I was seeking with personal lessons in Spanish. This allowed her to tailor our first lesson to my needs. I learned so much! She helped substantially with pronunciation and verb conjugations. I look forward to our next sessions and continued learning. I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking to improve their language skills in Spanish and English, in particular.
