What is the TestDaF?
The TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache) is a standardized language test for foreign students to examine their German language proficiency. With this test you can obtain the admission requirements for studying at German universities. The test is comparable with the English TOEFL test.
How is the TestDaF structured?
The TestDaF tests four different skills of the German language:

Reading comprehension
In order to test the reading comprehension, three texts of different difficulty levels have to be read. Afterwards, you have to solve 30 tasks (multiple choice, assignment tasks, multiple-choice tasks). The part of the reading comprehension lasts 60 minutes.
Listening comprehension
For the listening comprehension three different audio files are provided and you have to fulfill 25 different kind of tasks (short answer tasks and right / wrong tasks).This part of the exam lasts 40 minutes.
Writing expression
This is about a self-written texts. First it is required to describe a picture or a graphics and second you will take part of a discussion, where you write some answers to the given question. You have approximately 60 minutes time for this task.
Oral Expression
To validate the German language orally, seven topics are tested at different levels of difficulty (conversation between students, describing graphics, etc.). These tests take place on the computer where your spoken words are recorded. For this part about 35 minutes are scheduled.
How is the TestDaF scored?
There are three different scores that you can achieve:
- TestDaF Level 3 (TDN 3)
- TestDaF Level 4 (TDN 4)
- TestDaF Level 5 (TDN 5)
These scores describe the level from B2 to C1. Here you can get more information about the TDN classification and the corresponding levels.
Your results are announced 6-8 weeks after the examination.
Where and when does the TestDaF take place?
Worldwide, there are 450 institutions spread in 95 different countries, where the tests can be taken. The official website of TestDaF also tells you how many free places are left.
All over the year, there are several dates for the examination in the different institutions. Please make sure to register timely to be able to compete the test.
Why is the TestDaF useful?
There several reasons why the TestDaF is useful:

- Meaningful result for your language level

How long is a TestDaF certificate valid?
The validity of the TestDaF certificate is unlimited.
How much does the TestDaF cost?
There are three different categories of countries, which demand different prices. The exact costs, however, you will find out at the time of the registration or in one of the test centers.
How to register for the TestDaF?
You can either register online or via a registration form for the Test DaF. After the registration deadline, you will receive all important information for the exam day.
Note: A valid passport is mandatory for registration!

After training as a pastry chef and studying business administration, I traveled a lot and discovered my interest in languages. To find out more about teaching languages, I decided on further training at the Goethe Institute and completed it. During the Goethe Institute "Learn to teach German" course I was able to give individual language lessons and actively support the examination preparation for the Goethe certificate.

my name is Veronika and I am a student in Florence at the academy of fine arts. I have been in Italy for three years and I really like the Italian language. In school i learned english and during journeys i used to speak a lot of english so i'm also able to teach in english.
I am from Germany so I am a German native speaker. I have already taught German to some of my friends and would love to teach my language to more people as well. At the beginning I would like to do grammar lessons and the most used words to deepen the basic knowledge of the language. Then I will continue to have conversations in German to increase vocabulary and to give confidence in dialogue and in any case in speaking the language in real scenarios. The most important thing by learning a new language is to learn it through hearing and speaking. Being difficult at first to formulate sentences will then become easier and easier and thus you arrive at a fluent and confident way to speak the new language.
For myself I learned Italian three years ago with this method so I also know what it is like to learn a language and I can help you with my teaching to learn German that way.
