About me: I'm a huge language enthusiast - alongside Slovak, I'm fluent in four European languages, and currently, I'm self-studying two more. I come from a bilingual family, where alongside Slovak, I had the opportunity from an early age to develop my language skills in Croatian. In 2017, I graduated with honors in Croatian Language and Culture - Italian Language and Culture, specializing in Translation and Interpreting. During my studies, I spent time at the University of Bari and the University of Trieste in Italy. Shortly after my graduation, I undertook professional internships at the University of Sassari and at the European Parliament in Luxembourg. I am a PhD holder in German studies from the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany, and I have been teaching German and the subjects related... to German language, culture and literature for more than 20 years. At the same time, I led intensive German courses (DaF) for students who started with German from scratch and needed to be prepared for their studies in Germany. I started teaching during my studies at university. Most of the jobs I was given back then involved working with teenagers and adults. It was a challenge for me but I loved it! Later on, I spent 16 years in Southeast Asia, where I worked at various universities and gained enormous experience in working with multiethnic and multicultural groups. Apart from that, I also had the opportunity to participate in the development of study programs. In addition to German, I communicate in English, Czech, Russian and I speak a tiny bit of Malay. We all are different learners and we shall find the most suitable way for ourselves! At the beginning of my teaching career, I considered being a non-native German speaker as my weakness. However, growing experience in teaching and co-working with German mother tongue speakers, I realized that it is actually my strength. Hello, my name is Marta, I am from Slovakia. Just after I finished my studies, I decided to get better in English and travel around, so I left... to Ireland. What was meant to be a few months turned into 5 years. I became a Slovak teacher in the weekend centre for Slovak children and later I got a full time job in European school. This opened my eyes about teaching Slovak as a foreign language, what became my main interest. For the last few years I have been teaching adults and kids with different goals, aims and interests, and I am happy to help you out as well! In Slovakia I studied Teaching of Slovak language and literature and History. By now I have 4 years of experience, I was teaching Slovak as a mother tongue language, foreign language, adults and children, online and in person. I see the whole science behind the language and the art of teaching, so I am trying to get better every time and I keep working on my skills. In Ireland I did my C1 Cambridge certificate in English, which is very helpful in teaching Slovak as a foreign language.
