Hi there, my name is Jamie Abigail- but you can call me Teacher Abby. I am a certified TEFL teacher with teaching experience. I am 23 years... old born and bred in South Africa- the weather in South Africa is never predictable, always sunny, rainy, and rarely snows. In South Africa we have 12 official languages - I know pretty awesome right? I come from a very creative background, that includes the following deciplines- Fine Art, Fashion Design, Graphic Design and Interior Design. In my classes you will sing, dance, do art and laugh whilst we work on our conversational skills and English! I am an aunt to 7 so I have extra experience working with kids who may have difficulties learning the new language! I am from Calabria, but over the years I have felt at home in various places. In each one I have searched for my way and in the end in each one... I have found little clues that have allowed me to understand that I want to teach my language to those who do not yet know it. I have always loved the word, its power and the infinite possibilities it offers; at first I only thought of writing it down but there was still something missing. What use is the word if it is not shared, if it does not become an opportunity for exchange between cultures, or better, between individuals? So, between one suitcase and another, I graduated in Italian literature and specialised in journalism, then I obtained the Ditals II from the University for Foreigners of Siena and the two-year specialisation school as a teacher of Italian to foreigners at the same university. I have been teaching Italian for more than ten years: in Italy in state schools, in schools for adult migrants (Cpia in Modena and Rome) and in public schools; abroad at the Dante Alighieri in Valletta and at the University of Cork. I have a passion for music, cinema, documentaries and photography, different mo(n)es which allow me to learn and tell stories. Step by step I have become more and more aware of how much I love this job which has given me the opportunity to meet wonderfully unique people, now very often friends. I'm a current Phd candidate in philosophy at the Sorbonne University. I'm native Chinese and I speak English, French and German fluently; I'm... learning Flemish now - I can hold basic conversations and I expect to attain intermediate level in three months. I have a double bachelor degree in History and Chinese Language&Literature as well as a master degree in Western Philosophy. I have passed strict exams in pedagogy and in teaching practice and thus successfully acquired a certificate of Chinese Language& Literature teacher for high-school. I have been an online teacher of English Literature in a private school since a couple of years and I have very good reviews from all my students. I live now in Gent for personal reasons. I'm finishing my Phd thesis, so I have a lot of free time before my defence of the thesis, meanwhile, I'm interested in linguistic-cultural exchange, so I think to work as a Chinese teacher might be a very good idea! I'm enthusiastic about languages and I've given Chinese lessons to foreign students before, what's more, I've travelled all over in China and in the world, therefore I know well how to well communicate and to help my students to learn a new language with efficiency and fun.
