Hey there! My name's Jayshree, you can call me Jay if you prefer. I'm a native British TEFL qualified English teacher. I love teaching... English to kids, teenagers and adults, from Beginner to Advanced levels. I've taught over 800 students from across 54 different Countries. I've only been teaching English online for one year and before that I was teaching English in person and in my Yoga classes. I'm also a Wellness - Yoga and Meditation Teacher. Prior to teaching English I worked as a Management Consultant in the UK for 16 years. I trained people in English how to use new ways of working in a rapidly changing world. My English language classes are fun, creative and relaxing. I feel that humans learn best when they are feeling safe, happy and relaxed, so I create a learning environment which enables the student to feel this way. I love teaching children from the age of 4 to 13 years old. These classes are fun and colourful. We learn English through playing games, reading books, watch video clips. We use cartoon quizzes to practice grammar play tick tack toe to help a child build confidence to speak and freely express him/herself. For teenagers aged 13 - 17, we tend to watch short video clips about topics that interest them. We practice listening skills too using a variety of accents so they can understand people speaking English from around the world. We focus more on learning idioms and everyday language usage. Adults often tell me they feel confused about when to use the different verb tenses in English, so I start to introduce them early on to help all students see how easy it actually is to grasp the different tenses. When I had to learn Spanish a few years ago as an adult I found a Spanish teacher who shared this approach with me which really helped me so I now use this approach with my English students. With adult students I tend to focus on specific topics such as Business English, Travel and Culture, Science and Music, Interview Preparation, IELTS preparation. I sometimes work with PhD students who want to learn specific topics. I did my PhD over 20 years ago. The Business English classes are more expensive than the other classes as teaching English for travel is different to teaching English for Business Communication. I have a degree in Business Studies and have been TEFL certified since 2012, Since 2012, I have been teaching students of various ages and have... been preparing them to sit exams with Cambridge University, such as PET, KET, FCE, Business and IELTS. I use material from Cambridge such as coursebooks from Pearson´s Educatio for PET and KET and Intelligent Business for Business. I am a PhD student in English Applied Linguistics, still in process, at an Austrian university, who lives in Spain. My Master’s degree is in... English as a Second Language and my BA degree and high school diploma are from the USA. Besides, my academic degrees, I have obtained teaching certificates like 120 hour TEFL Certificate, Certificate in Business English (CTBE) and Certificate in Teaching English to Young Learners (CTEYL). With aforementioned qualifications and long experience in teaching, I find myself qualified to an online teaching position. Considering my teaching philosophy, I believe that being an ESL instructor is an admirable and at the same time inspiring job. The instructors should share all their knowledge and experience with their students; show them how to be equipped with necessary implements for communication. The other important responsibility of ESL instructors is creating a welcoming and tranquil classroom atmosphere, free from any stress, to provide the students the opportunity to use the available resources in the best possible way and to produce what they are expected in the new language. For ESL instructors, like all other academic positions, there is always room for perfection. Consequently, I attempt to further my professional knowledge through attending specialized international workshops and conferences, doing relevant scientific research as well as taking additional courses about technological innovations in ESL teaching.
